María María Acha-Kutscher

The Womankind project consists of several series of digital photographic collages. These were made using images from found files; images from the internet, magazines, books; and photographs taken by the artist. Womankind seeks to redefine the meaning of the images on which the history of women has been built since the invention of photography, where they have traditionally been relegated to the background in paternalistic and hegemonic histories. In her collages, Acha-Kutscher rescues a female historical memory, reflecting both her political struggles and the complexity of her private worlds.
