Margaret Harrison

Margaret Harrison questions the notions of gender, identity, politics, social class, domestic violence and exploitation of work and women’s sexuality. During her more than 40 years working as an artist, Harrison has reported on local and international cultural and political issues in a variety of media, including drawings, oil paintings, watercolors, and large installations. She uses iconography, pop art, and consumer brands to reflect on female, male, and transgender identity, often humorously subverting the gender roles that society has assigned. Her superhero series opens up new dialogues on gender stereotypes by using comic book aesthetics mixed with the British tradition of satirical cartoons.
