Holy Unmercenaries is inspired by Joseph Beuys and the postcards of the twin towers he inscribed with the words Cosmos and Damien. Cosmos & Damian were twin Arab brothers, born in Arabia, and brought up as Christian by their mother. They studied medicine and became itinerant healers. Under the Diocletian persecution, the twins were arrested and tortured and finally beheaded, probably in 287 A.D. With this piece the artist points out a new turn on this story after the World Trade Center attack.
